Amtrak Train, Stuck Since Sunday, Moving Again

An Amtrak train became stuck Near Oakridge, Oregon, following heavy snowfall and hitting a downed tree.

The passengers, many of whom were on the way to Los Angeles where they attend college, were in good spirits until late Monday and early Tuesday, as supplies got lower.

The train has since begun moving again, and, at time of writing, is en route to Eugene, Oregon.

Amtrak Train Moving Again

Commuter Train

Snowed In

The train struck a downed tree on the tracks Sunday afternoon, becoming stopped. The train still had power, heat, water and food for the passengers, however. It had departed Seattle and was on the way to Los Angeles, a route the train runs daily.

Thankfully, no passengers were harmed when the train struck the downed tree, and everyone had food and water enough to remain comfortable for the two days they were stuck.

Passengers were getting antsy, however, as they had to remain on the train and couldn’t really get out and stretch their legs.

Problems Emerge

The passengers grew nervous as supplies, such as bottled water, diapers and feminine hygiene products grew scarce. College students grew panicked when their professors told them the train stoppage wasn’t an excuse for missing class.

There were also a number of small children on the train, many of whom were growing antsy of being cooped up.

There were reports that the limited options for food were grating the patience of the very young children, though some of the older children were managing much better with the limited options.

Amtrak’s Response

Passengers have reported that Amtrak staff was friendly and professional following the stoppage. The company’s corporate HQ has stated that none of the passengers were charged for any of the food or water provided on the train.

Further, they’ve confirmed that everyone will be getting a full refund for their ticket price.

Once the train is returned to Eugene, where the passengers will be able to depart, it will then head back into Seattle. Amtrak has warned that, due to the extreme weather conditions, that there could be further delays in the future for the train.
