President Donald Trump is expected to take executive action after the Supreme Court blocked the administration.

Trump announced that he will hold a news conference in the afternoon so that he can discuss “the Census and Citizenship.” A senior administration official also stated that the president is expected to announce moving forward with an executive action to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

Census Citizenship Question Already Rejected by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court already rejected the administration adding the controversial citizenship question, and said that the administration’s given rationale for doing so was “contrived.”

Trump issued a tweet just last week saying that the Department of Commerce would still be moving forward with trying to put the citizenship question on the census.

According to Justice Department special counsel Joshua Gardner, the president’s tweet about moving forward contradicted their earlier position, and was the first time he was aware of the president’s position on the issue.

The printing of the 2020 census has already began without the added citizenship question.
