The halftime show for Super Bowl LVI brought together a superstar lineup of hip-hop icons Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and a surprise appearance by 50 Cent that dropped hit after hit. The set for the show paid homage to Los Angeles, which featured a map of Compton on the stadium floor and architectural reproductions of Tam’s Burgers, Randy’s Donuts, and the Compton courthouse.

Eminem takes a knee

Eminem took a knee while performing his hit “lose yourself,” emulating former NFL player Colin Kaepernick, the first league player who kneeled while playing the national anthem in protest of police brutality. Reportedly, the NFL pushed back against Eminem’s request to take a knee and tried to censor an anti-police lyric. However, a spokesman for the league disputed those allegations, NBC reported.

Erin Jackson became the first black woman to win a USA gold medal in speed skating at the Winter Olympics. Jackson finished her lap at 37.04 seconds. The 29-year-old Florida native, who is ranked No. 1 in the world, had the opportunity after a fellow skater, Brittany Bowe, offered Jackson her spot, NBC reported. Jackson was also the first black woman to make it to Team USA as a speed skater.

Doctors opinion on new findings Bob Saget’s fatal head injuries

Multiple doctors are weighing in on new developments surrounding the death of actor Bob Saget, as the autopsy findings have shown a more extensive list of skull fractures and brain injuries.

“They include posterior scalp abrasions, subgaleal hemorrhage (blood that forms between the skull and scalp), discoloration in the upper and lower eyelids due to skull fracture, subdural hematoma (buildup of blood on the surface of the brain), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding in the space surrounding the brain),” the autopsy report stated, People reported.

One doctor described the plot force head trauma as injuries that “appear consistent with taking a baseball bat to the skull or falling 20 to 30 feet,” the Daily Wire reported.

Saget’s family issued a statement on the autopsy, saying: “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it, and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”

The U.S. suspends imports of Mexican avocado after threats made to inspector

The United States government has suspended all imports of avocados from Mexico “until further notice” after a U.S. plant safety inspector in Mexico received a threatening message, according to a statement from Mexico’s agriculture department, NBC reported.

The inspectors work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services. A previous threatening incident occurred in 2019, and the USDA warned at that time about the consequences of attacking or threatening U.S. inspectors, which would be a suspension of program activities.

Turf battles between drug cartels have expanded into the area of avocado exports, as cartels are extorting avocado growers in the western state of Michoacan. Avocados are Michoacan’s most lucrative crop. Michoacan is the only state in Mexico that is fully authorized to export to the U.S. market.

U.S. inspectors work in Mexico to ensure that exported avocados don’t bring diseases into the United States that could hurt its crops. From 1914 until 1997, all Mexican avocados had been banned from entering the U.S. to prevent a range of pests, scabs, and weevils from entering U.S. orchards.
