Semiconductor Shortage Leaves Electronics Manufacturing Scrambling

A recent shortage of semiconductors has been wreaking havoc for the electronics industry. Everything form cellphones to game consoles to smart microwaves and modern cars all require semiconductors to properly function. However, the chaotic market environment of 2020 has led to a situation where all of these industries are competing for a very small pool of these microchips.

Thanks to a huge demand from so many people buying new consoles and computers, many companies are postponing things like cellphone launches and stockpiling chips to use in their electronics.

While manufacturers of the chips struggle to keep up, the situation has caused a secondary market nightmare for enthusiasts. Gamers have to contend with prices approaching double retail to get things like graphics cards and consoles, while car buyers are noticing shortages of brand-new and even recent used cars on dealership lots.
