Pence on Standby for Presidency After Trump Medical Exam

A forthcoming book by New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt makes a startling claim. After President Trump was whisked away for a “quick exam and labs,” last November, Vice President Mike Pence was put on standby to assume the presidency. But, why?

In the book, Schmidt wrote that he learned, “in the hours leading up to Trump’s trip to the hospital, word went out in the West Wing for the vice president to be on standby to take over the powers of the presidency temporarily if Trump had to undergo a procedure that would have required him to be anesthetized.”

However, Schmidt did not specify how he learned this information. Pence did not assume the presidency as a result of the medical exam. But, Schmidt’s account does raise fresh questions about the reason for the unscheduled visit.

At that time, the visit did not follow routine protocol for a presidential medical exam. The medical staff at Walter Reed didn’t receive a staff-wide notice either, which is typical for such a “VIP” visit. As a result, this raised red flags.

The morning after the exam, Trump tweeted “Everything very good (great!)”

Biden Says a Trump Reelection Won’t Stop the Violence

Biden tweeted on Monday insinuating that a Trump reelection won’t stop the violence. He questioned, “Does anyone believe there will be less violence in America if Donald Trump is reelected?”

Biden claims that Donald Trump has made America more dangerous. He blames Trump for inciting racial unrest. Also, for not taking responsibility for the coronavirus pandemic.

“Donald Trump has been a toxic presence in our nation for four years,” said Biden during a speech in Pittsburgh. “Will we rid ourselves of this toxin? Or will we make it a permanent part of our nation’s character?”

Biden said that Trump’s “law and order,” message exists to instill fear and said Trump is ignoring that “he is President, whether he knows it or not.”

Biden also touched on Trump’s “subservient role,” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it humiliating and embarrassing. He lambasted Trump over reports that bounties were offered to the Taliban to kill US soldiers by Russian operatives.

“Not even American soldiers can feel safer under President Trump,” said Biden.
