In what has become an ‘annual holiday tradition’, Melania Trump is once again being shamed over something in the White House, and people are starting to take notice.
So what did Melania Trump do this time? You won’t believe this.
…She put up Christmas decorations.
The decorations, and the subsequent photo ops and social media posts regarding them, have become a constant source of ridicule for Melania.
Melania Trump Mocked Over Christmas Decorations
Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s mouthpiece and White House press secretary, has slammed “the media” for consistently mocking Melania’s holiday decorations. “It has become an annual holiday tradition for the media to attack all that the first lady does,” Grisham asserted.
“If this was a Democratic administration, I suspect Mrs. Trump and her work would be featured positively in every mainstream news outlet,” Grisham speculated.
When pressed, Grisham could give no examples of any specific networks shaming the first lady, but that’s not the important part: the narrative is that people are mean to her and that there’s a war on Christmas.
Has Melania Actually Been Made Fun of Over Christmas Decorations?
Last year, the first lady’s strange red-themed decorations for the White House received some bemused responses. Many online commented that the decorations were similar to the aesthetic of dystopian TV show “The Handmaid’s Tale,” while others noted the similarities to the Stephen King tale The Shining.
This year, the harshest criticism to be heard mostly centered around Melania’s choice to wear a stark, white coat in the video revealing the “Spirit of America” theme of the decorations. Fashion critic Robin Givhan wrote, “In a video that is intended to celebrate the warmth and welcoming spirit of the holiday season, that simple flourish exudes cold, dismissive aloofness.”
Melania’s theme for this year included ornaments and displays that showed various landmarks from across the United States. They included places such as the Space Needle, the Statue of Liberty and the Golden Gate bridge.
Even one of the Christmas trees included a special touch, having a scrabble-themed ornament that spelled out, “Be Best”. Many have commented that the White House Christmas decorations were quite beautiful, but the current political atmosphere is having an effect.
