Tyson Foods Says Supply Chain Is Breaking As They Shut Down Plants

Tyson Foods has issued a warning that “millions of pounds of meat” will start disappearing. This is thanks to a supply issue as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The food supply chain is breaking,” wrote John Tyson in a full-page advertisement. He published it in the Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Sunday.

“There will be limited supply of our products available in grocery stores until we are able to reopen our facilities that are currently closed,” he wrote.

Some of the country’s largest processing plants have recently been forced to close. This is after thousands of employees tested positive for the virus.

Why a Loss of Smell Is Important in Detecting Coronavirus

The UK’s leading experts are claiming that a sudden loss of smell could be one of the most reliable signs of coronavirus. It’s even more telling than the more commonly recognized symptoms of fever or cough.

Professor Claire Hopkins, president of the British Rhinological Society, says that a loss of smell is a good early marker of infection.

“One in six patients will lose their sense of smell as an isolated symptom, really without getting any other associated symptoms,” said Hopkins. “One in four will get it along with other symptoms, but right at the beginning of the infection.”

“When you look at all the different symptoms, loss of sense of smell is actually one of the best predictors of COVID-19 infection,” she added.

But, is that enough to deter people from going out in public?

Trump Says No Loan for USPS Unless They Raise Rates

President Trump has continued his tirade against the United States Postal Service. On Friday, he said he won’t approve a $10 billion loan. However, he would approve it if the USPS raised rates four to five times for Amazon.

“The Postal Service is a joke because they’re handing out packages for Amazon and other internet companies and every time they bring a package, they lose money on it,” said Trump to reporters.

However, financial analysts offered finance advice in the form of a warning. They said that sharply boosting charges could backfire. This is especially if competitors like FedEx and UPS are charging less.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had a few thoughts on the matter. She said she believes the administration is threatening to cause harm to a service that has wide support with the American people.

“This is really dangerous and Mnuchin at Treasury is trying to leverage the debt situation in a way that must be stopped,” said Pelosi.
