Fifteen People Killed in Southern California Crash


A car accident involving a semitruck hauling gravel and an SUV loaded with people has resulted in at least 15 deaths in Southern California. The accident took place in El Centro, California, roughly 60 miles west of the border with Arizona. The crash resulted in at least 14 killed instantly when the SUV veered into the path of the truck, and one other person reportedly died in the hospital a short time later.

The accident, which took place early Tuesday morning, has been treated by Californian authorities as a mass casualty event. According to local authorities, the crash took place on State Route 115, near the US border with Mexico.

Six people are being treated at the hospital for their injuries suffered during the accident. According to medical staff who are treating the injured, some 27 people were thought to have been in the SUV when it struck the gravel truck.
